Where Rigid Minds See Falsity, Flexible Minds See Second Chances

Where rigid minds see falsity, flexible minds see second chances

Have you ever wondered why some people are unable to find different solutions to their problems and why others, on the other hand, adapt perfectly to different situations? The answer lies in the fact  that we relate to each other in different ways depending on our expectations, past experiences, beliefs, and emotional states. It is for this reason that flexible people interact better with others and in healthier ways.

Cognitive rigidity is a characteristic of people who do not dare to change their opinion and who are not able to accept new alternative ideas. In front of them, we find the people who have a critical, open reason, and who recognize the change. According to Walter Riso, the strength of flexible thinking lies in the fact that, despite the obstacles, it allows us to invent ourselves and to be flexible with the events of life without hurting ourselves and without doing harm. to others.

For Riso,  a person with a critical, fair and honest attitude creates an open and healthy lifestyle,  generates less stress, more ease and less violence. She will not only live better but will also contribute to the well-being of her community.

Rigid people are more likely to suffer from depression

People with a rigid mind select only what is in accordance with their beliefs and ignore information that contradicts them. They do not take nuances into account and that is why they insist on what they think, feel or do, even in extreme cases, although the evidence shows otherwise. They even come to lie, insult and despise to get what they want and not succumb to the confusion of not being right.

Rigid and absolutist minds see change as a weakness  and prefer to avoid facts if they disagree with them. They therefore run the risk of suffering from disorders such as depression. These people draw conclusions without relying on enough information and consider that they are obliged to act, in a determined direction, without going into depth or listening to their opponents.

These are people who think that those who are not on their side are against them. This belief feeds on the fear of finding out that they are wrong and realizing that part of their life is based on a false belief. They have an incredible fear of losing their safety signal which acts like a leader, a sage or a lucid being, by not being able or not prepared to face the demands of change.

“The same thing happens with closed-minded people as with narrow-necked bottles. The less they contain, the more noise they make when emptying them. “

The power of flexible minds

Flexible-minded people are characterized by a gradual and identifiable change of mind. They are calm, fair, respectful with others and always try to avoid exclusion. They do not usually bow to superficial and unconscious thoughts which often lead to a spiral of negativity and suffering without having contrasting evidence for it.

Flexible people seek to free themselves from mandates and “we should”,  irrational automatisms that feed on inflexible demands on our part, on the part of others and the world in general. They reject any form of authoritarianism or individual totalitarianism.

Neuroscience tells us that we can change our mindset by creating new neural connections in the brain and strengthening them with our thinking. For this reason,  the real shift in mindset is fundamentally about the brain  and the neurons we make by thinking and behaving in a certain way.

Therefore,  flexible minds see life from different points of view,  sometimes accepting mistakes, while rigid minds see their pattern of thought as the only one to follow.

We were all wrong in judging someone at first sight  and that person ended up becoming one of our best friends. If this person had stayed with the idea we had of him at the beginning, he would have used a rigid and absolutist style of thought that does not correspond at all to present reality.

Mentally rigid people have difficulty forgiving  and accepting their share of responsibility for their problems, which is why they may see falsehood where second chances are found.
