The Past Does Not Define My Present

The past doesn't define my present

There are many people who live clinging to their past. A past which is still alive in the present, which overwhelms and frustrates them, which makes them suffer permanently.

The past is behind us and we must not relive it. What is more, we must stop living in the past.

Our life is a cycle in which we always move forward. Thus, we cannot go back in time to repair mistakes we have made, words we have spoken …

But the positive point is that we can improve today and not reproduce what we would not have wanted to happen.

A present full of “ifs”

We can follow several paths in our life, and we can turn back if we see that it does not lead us where we really want to go.

On the other hand, we cannot change what happened. We often think about what could have happened if we had acted differently, if we had taken risks …

All these “ifs”, among others, make us think about possible alternatives that would allow us to regret nothing of our past.

We are fully aware that each of our choices determines our present. If we had acted differently, we wouldn’t be the same as we are now. Consider that maybe your present wouldn’t be as good as you think it would be.

So, rather see the past as something that has happened and that cannot be changed. Ditch the “ifs” that don’t help, because that won’t do you any favors.

You will only torture and frustrate yourself even more. Leave the past behind.

It’s time to change

If you can’t break free from the “ifs”, it’s time to consider the possibility of a change. We cannot change the past, but through our actions we can make sure we learn from our mistakes.

We think all the time that mistakes are bad, but they are an irreparable part of our life. If we don’t make mistakes, we don’t learn.

If we are not mistaken, we will not find the right answer. Now is the time for a change, but for that you need to view your past as a learning opportunity.

Take everything you don’t like about yourself, all those words you shouldn’t have said and all those mistakes that weigh on your morale. Put it all in a box, analyze it and keep it. Now you won’t stumble over the same stone.

Even if it is painful to look behind you or, even worse, to analyze our mistakes and our faults, it is important to do  so in order to be able to continue to move forward, to change and to surpass ourselves.

Closing your eyes is never a good idea. The only consequence will be to lock us in our past.

Keep moving, even if it’s hard

You must now move on. You analyzed your past, you saw where you went wrong, what hurt you. Now is the time to move on.

You cannot live anchored in your past. If not, what then happens with your present?

Tell yourself that the more you stay focused on your past, the more opportunities you will miss out on. Say you are in pain because of people who have harmed you.

If you live in the past you will lose confidence in yourself, you will miss the chance to make new friends and meet wonderful people.

If you let go of the past and move on, you will regain the lost confidence and meet new people who will fill your life with hope and joy.

Don’t you realize that by living clinging to your past, you refuse to be happy? Leave the past behind, because by sticking to it, it is as if you are holding a grudge against someone.

It keeps you from moving forward, it keeps you from growing, it keeps you from achieving true happiness.

You deserve better than a resentful void. Time passes, the present is fleeting. So you have to take care of him.

Learn from your past and be definitely focused on your future, while making the most of your present, because it will pass in front of you at full speed.
