The Influence Of Feelings On The Heart

The influence of feelings on our physiology, and more particularly on our heart, is a subject which has transcended romantic literature and which is of interest to science. We therefore ask ourselves in this article what science can tell us in this regard.
The influence of feelings on the heart

Symbolically, the heart is the organ of feelings. However, physiologically, this is far from being the case. However, the fact remains that the management of our emotions can indirectly influence the health of our circulatory system. And, consequently, on its central organ: the heart.

Traumatic circumstances can arise throughout life. When you are faced with a level of stress that is really worrying, for example. Thus, all experiences that generate a high degree of frustration and suffering directly affect the quality of an individual’s life.

The New York Times analyzes the influence of feelings in the heart

The New York Times, in its article How emotions can affect the heart ( “How emotions can affect the heart , in French), says that  this body is a relatively simple biological machine. But also a vital organ endowed with an enormous symbolic load.  It is the literary scenario of romance, sadness, fear or courage.

the influence of feelings on the heart

In Western culture, it is of great importance since it is considered to be  a kind of crystalline surface in which love is reflected and nourished. Likewise, the New York newspaper’s publication indicates that stress and hopelessness can have a significant effect on health. He points out that the most stressful points make the heart ache and increase in pulsation and tension when the rest of the body does not accompany it (unlike what happens when we exercise).

Studies confirm the influence of feelings on the heart

Josep M. Caralps, the first heart surgeon to perform a heart transplant in Spain in 1984, suggested that the heart is likely to generate its own feelings and emotions, with the brain being the transmitter. This has convulsed the medical community, which still has no evidence on this.

Josep says that many of his transplant patients have new ideas. But also new practices that they had never done before. The cardiology doctor assures us that it is all due to the heart transplant. However, many colleagues are reluctant to their statements because they feel they do not have enough scientific backing.

Broken hearts syndrome

Broken heart syndrome is the result of very deep sadness. A sadness which conditions the functioning of the nervous system (SN) and, by extension, of the rest of the organs. So, can a heart be broken because of great pain? What we do know is that chronic negative emotions (maintained over time) and intense emotions can compromise the functioning of the circulatory system.

In addition, it is safe to say that it is possible to die for lack of love.  Negative feelings derived from the lack of perceived love, as well as other sources of negative emotions, can directly affect the quantity and quality of our body’s defenses. This is perhaps one of the reasons that can draw the most attention to our emotional sphere.
